Van Persie admitted after the game that it was not in their best but said that the victory proves the United improving and heading in the right direction.
"I do not think we played the best football today," said sstriker Sky Sports. "Sometimes we get a little sloppy here and there but we fought hard and we gave absolutely everything.
"In the end we nicked it. It was a tough game, they have a good team. We know what to expect but in the end it was the fifth win in a row so we were on top.
"I've felt pretty good for the last couple of weeks fitness-wise. Every time it will be easier to play more than 90 minutes and tonight, I continued until the last minute and that's what you want.
